The 2002 exhibition Art of the Everyday dealt with my interpretation of the local environment in which we live focusing on the way people interact with their locality and the Townsville area with its harsh light and cool gardens. The majority of this work came from the Townsville area. Commentary on Waiting for the Rain: While a recent trip to Central Queensland to visit my relatives we ended up sitting on the veranda as a storm approached the farm. The majority of the conversation for that day had been about the weather and would it rain at the farm. Thus came the artwork “Waiting for the rain” a study of a moment caught in time. The other painting here show the environment around Townsville and the juxtaposition from the harsh light of the beach to the cool palm gardens as shown in “Hidden Garden” and “Statue Garden”. The beach series is that of “Sunbather”, “Looking”, “Couple” and “Perspective”. “Sisters” is an image from a recent visit of my cousins where they put on old army shirts and dyed the hair in the middle of the night on the backyard veranda. |
